■Mizoiri Keizo ”A Gold before a Cat” 3.1.2006
Keizo (originally Mizoiri Keizo) is a contrabassist, educated in Japan and the USA, who has received, among others, Germany's Kranichsteiner Music Prize and Japan's Asahi Contemporary Music Award. On his previous album he developed the concept of 'contrabass theater', based on telling stories while playing the instrument at the same time. Building on this idea, he invited a number of collaborators for this album. Each participant brilliantly mobilizes their own style to create a unique 'one-person instrumental theaters' - contrabass theater, shamisen opera, 'tell and blow' by the trombonist, etc - that together make up the whole album. All the musicians seem to enjoy having more roles than usual - telling stories, acting and directing him/herself in addition to playing. Keizo's stories are as humorous and witty as ever.
